Richard W. King, Jr.

Combining a career in medicine and an avid interest in scuba diving led Dr. King to pursue his dream of developing a major hyperbaric medicine facility in 1999. As medical director, Dr. King is responsible for evaluating patients for hyperbaric oxygen therapy, directing patient care and supervising HyOx Medical Treatment Center’s medical staff.

His stellar patient care and medical expertise has earned him numerous accolades and awards including Atlanta Magazine’s bi-annual designation as one of Atlanta’s “Top Docs” in a poll of medical peers conducted in 2005 and 2007.

Dr. King is an expert in hyperbaric medicine and one of 322 physicians nationwide board certified in Undersea and Hyperbaric Medicine. He was first trained in hyperbaric medicine more than 20 years ago as a flight surgeon in the United States Air Force and continues to research new treatment innovations in rehabilitative medicine. Dr. King is a frequent presenter at medical conferences spanning numerous medical specialty areas that regularly use hyperbaric oxygen therapy as an adjunct treatment.

A native of Miami, Florida, Dr. King has spent much of his career in Atlanta. He graduated from Emory University’s School of Medicine and completed his specialty training at Emory’s Center for Rehabilitation Medicine, serving as chief resident in his final year.

In addition to hyperbaric medicine, Dr. King has extensive experience in the rehabilitation of wounds, strokes, amputations, head injuries and spinal cord injuries. Prior positions include medical director of HealthSouth Rehabilitation Hospital in Sarasota, Florida and WellStar Cobb Hospital Rehabilitation Unit.

Reita King

After years of research and discussion about opening a specialty rehabilitation center Reita King relocated from Sarasota, Florida with her husband, Dr. Richard King to start HyOx Medical Treatment Center. She played an integral role in selecting the site and securing the initial financing for the comprehensive outpatient rehabilitation center.

In addition to overseeing the finance and billing department, Reita is credited with building a highly skilled medical and office team. Believing patient satisfaction extends beyond the medical treatment patients receive; Reita recruited a team that serves patient needs in a professional and compassionate way. Her leadership in this patient-centered philosophy sets HyOx apart from other medical facilities.

Reita earned a Bachelor of Science degree from the Georgia Institute of Technology. After graduation, she was a math teacher in Lithia Springs, Georgia for three years and then became a programmer analyst for Lockheed Martin in Marietta. Dr. King’s stint in the United States Air Force took them to Okinawa, Japan and Eglin Air Force Base in Florida.

After the military, Dr. King and Reita moved to Sarasota where she took a professional hiatus to take on a more than full-time job raising four children. She was actively involved in volunteerism using her financial expertise as treasurer of the Sarasota County Medical Auxiliary and of her children’s school. Her fundraising efforts helped the school raise more than $400,000 in one night.

Her dream of coming back to her hometown of Marietta was realized when HyOx joined Metro Atlanta’s medical community in 1999. Reita and her family make their home in Marietta, the site of HyOx’s highly anticipated annual Christmas party.
