Rehabilitation is a treatment or treatments designed to facilitate a patient’s recovery time from injury, illness, or disease by restoring some or all of a patient’s physical, sensory, and mental capabilities that were lost. HyOx offers both physical and respiratory therapy to patients as an adjunct to hyperbaric oxygen treatments.
Physical Therapy
Physical therapy helps the patient restore the use of muscles, bones, and the nervous system through the use of heat, cold, massage, ultrasound, exercise and other techniques. The therapy seeks to relieve pain, improve strength and mobility, and train the patient to perform important everyday tasks.
Physical therapy may be prescribed to rehabilitate a patient for indications HyOx Medical Treatment Center treats such as amputations, burns, cancer, neurological problems, orthopedic injuries, traumatic brain injuries, and other injuries/illnesses. HyOx physical therapists help patients with:
- Gait training — walking with foot injuries, cast or crutches
- Wheelchair mobility skills
- Ultrasounds
- Electrical stimulation
- Wound care — self-management techniques
The duration of the physical therapy program varies depending on the injury/illness being treated and the patient’s response to therapy.
Respiratory Therapy
HyOx has respiratory therapists on staff to provide hyperbaric care and assist the physician with patient evaluations. If needed, the therapists administer aerosol treatments and perform pulmonary function screening and pulse oximetry testing.
